In jewellery sections all over the high street for the past few months there has been a real divide between large in your face colourful pieces, and delicate vintage looking gold jewellery. What's hard to miss at the moment in any high street store from & Other Stories, Topshop, ASOS, to Primark is gold charm pendants on vintage inspired chain necklaces. The charms take on many forms, with religious pendants like crucifixes, pendants bearing different Saints, medallions, and the ever popular vintage coin. Of course if the high street are doing it, it must mean that the trend trickled down from above. While the vintage coin movement started last summer, designers such as Dior, Saint Laurent and Giambattista Valli were still showing a series of layered chain necklaces adorned with pendants for SS18 mimicking the cool California girl effect.
British jewellery brand Missoma is a champion for the cool girl layered chain, delicate jewellery look and is the perfect place to look if you are on board with this current trend. Influencers of the fashion world have been avid fans for years, and swear by the brands every day jewellery. It does come with a pricier price tag though, one which you may have to save up for, like I am currently trying hard to do.
However if you want some of the religious, coin, gold chain action pronto, and you have under 20 quid to spend, don't despair. There are plenty of options on the high street, and online (you don't even have to get up) available to purchase. One of my recent discoveries is a online shop called Chained + Able. They specialise in medallions, sovereigns, and religious style jewellery. I recently bought a St Christopher medallion from their mens range - don't let the gender difference stop you from shopping from the other side! It can be a great way to find different pieces which may be more chunky, longer, or cheaper! Orelia is also a good place to browse and has a similar aesthetic to Missoma and Monica Vinader, but without the price tag. Cinco is another brand which does great pieces. Their prices are not as steep as Missoma, but slightly more than your average high street store. I've yet to buy anything from them yet, but my basket on their website is pretty hefty!
