I'm obsessed with wearing jeans, and have a habit of wearing the same few pairs over and over again. You know when you've finally worn in your new jeans, and they are at long last super comfy, it's so terribly hard to take them off and reach for something else. I find denim to be a sort of fashion safety blanket. They go with everything. Wear with heels, trainers, sandals, espadrilles, boots; the list is endless. You can be wearing jeans with a blazer and tee during the day with trainers, as I often do, then change into a pair of heels for the evening. However, the ease of jeans can lead you down a long rabbit hole that can be so hard to climb out of, that no matter how fantastic your other option may be (skirt, dress, trousers), you end up back with your old denim buddy.
This season, I made a conscious decision to include a bit of variation in my wardrobe. With suiting being so on trend this season, it's been really easy to find alternatives to jeans, with the ever growing styles of trousers you can find on the high street. Not wanting to spend too much on my new resolution, I found the perfect pair of starter trousers in Primark/Penneys. I opted for a navy pinstripe trouser, which has a flat front waistband and elasticated band at the back. This is always my go to for trousers, as they really help the comfort factor, and also fit various body types. They have pockets on both sides, and faux back pockets on the bum. There is also a cuff hem, which you can roll up a couple more times if you are a bit shorter like myself and want to show a bit of ankle. For €16, it's a super bargain, and I would definitely say that they are pretty good quality. To be honest, if you compared them to a pair of similar style trousers from Zara or H&M you wouldn't be able to tell the difference, and they would be at least €5 more expensive. Primark/Penneys have done a few other versions in different prints - one in a check, and another in a grey pinstripe. I wouldn't be surprised if they bring out more colours and prints later in the next few months as well!
I've gone quite minimal, and paired my navy pinstripes with a my trusty black blazer from Topshop and a thin black knit top from H&M. I've contrasted the dark colours with white v pointed slingbacks (old from Topshop) and a cross body Balenciaga bag. Please excuse the fact that my white heels are sinking into the wet grass!!
